The English Hockey Board’s Leadership Award Scheme has been developed by a team of professional and volunteer hockey personnel. It aims to provide parents, students, teachers, players and other potential leaders with a basic knowledge of the key areas of hockey (umpiring, coaching and managing) alongside the confidence to introduce and develop aspects of the game safely to players.
There are no pre-requisites to particiapting in the programme (other than a minimum age of 13yrs) as it is specifically designed for potential leaders who have little deleivery, playing experinec or wish to hone their skills in the key areas. The programme consists of practical and theory sessions intended to allow participants the opportunity to develop their leadership skills in a structured learning environment.
The course consists of a number of units delivered over a maximum of 12hrs. The minimum cost from EHB is in the region of £30.00 for the handbook, whistle and DVD. The final cost is dependent on hire of surfaces and tutor time.
FOHC had 3 of its youngsters this summer take the award and they are now qualified Hockey Leaders and Foundation Umpires. - Posted 30/8/2010
