BBHC – 2 Folkestone Ladies 1′s – 3
Folkestone put in a solid performance away from home for their first league game of the new season. Ops started brightly with some good passing hockey and within minutes Folkestone were 1-0 up as Janet Fuller fired the ball into the opposition circle for the on rushing Ashley’s Hill’s to deflect past the keeper. BBHC responded quickly and although they were out played by Folkestone in the first half, they got a breakaway goal just before half time. Following a positive team talk from new captain, Vic Carney and manager Dave Parsons Folkestone started the second half brightly and it was not long before several chances were being created in front of goal. Eventually Ops took their opportunity and Janet Fadagio’s cross found the irrepressible Lucy Anderson who slotted the ball home to give the visitors the advantage. However, Ops lost concentration and yet again, against the run of play, found themselves having to defend a number of short corners the last of which was well converted by BBHC. Ops response to the equaliser was extremely encouraging and some good work from youngster Ash Mainwaring and veteran Lauren Geddes in the midfield helped Folkestone regain control of the game. Good build up play resulted in Jo Creek unleashing a powerful and well placed shot from the top of the opposition D that left the BBHC keeper stranded and gave Folkestone the lead. This was an encouraging start to the season and we would like to thank Andrea’s fancy dress shop for their continued sponsorship of the ladies first team this season.
