Folkestone 1sts Vs Brighton and Hove

  • L 4-3
  • Brighton and Hove

Folkestone met Brighton at home on another bright sunny day, and they started off well, going 1-0 up through some good interchange between luke Smithard, and Tom Bean, to allow him to finish past a sprawling keeper. Brighton drew back soon after with a controversial short corner which was finished well. Some more good build up play from Micah Smithard down the right wing brought about another goal for Folkestone which was hit into the with vigour from Alex Messenger. Folkestone drew further ahead through a broken down short corner which fell to Bean to strike home his second to make the score 3-1.

Brighton pulled back through another short corner late on in the half, giving them some belief going into the break.

Folkestone came out for the second half slowly, and seemed to loose their structure to allow Brighton in again through a scrappy goal. With the scores level, Folkestone were soon to get back onto the front foot and Brighton seem contempt to settle for a draw, but an unfortunately timed and controversial yellow card for Tom Bean meant Neil Bristow’s defence were put under a lot of pressure, and Folkestone had to try and hang on for the draw, but a lucky short corner conversion for Brighton put them in the lead and to halt Folkestone’s unbeaten start to the season.
