Folkestone 2nds Vs Holcombe

  • D 0-0
  • Holcombe

An impressive rear guard display ensured that Folkestone picked up their second point of the campaign, but were left bemoaning a lack of firepower up front.

Folkestone’s 2nd XI are starting to find some consistency now that a regular team has begun to gel together and a competent and assured display in the first half against Holcombe was testament to this. Strong defensive displays from Ali Walls and Adam Luckham ensure that Holcombe’s tricky forwards were kept away from goal. Man of the match Louis Sharrock stood firm throughout the game, making a series of great challenges.

Folkestone’s assured defensive display, was the starting point for several attacks in the game but their forwards never seemed to make it count in the final third. Shots from Chris Slade and Ben Allon were saved by the Holcombe keeper who was rarely tested.

As the game wore on Folkestone pressured the home team’s defence but the slice of luck needed never arrived. It could have got worse for the visitors too if Sam Ireland hadn’t of brilliantly deflected a goal bound shot late in the game.

A point away from home is always welcome, although Folkestone will have wanted all three from an encounter like this.
