Folkestone 5ths Vs Old Williamsonians
Although the first half saw both teams have an equal share of possession, it was the home team that created more chances to score and were rewarded after some crisp passing down the left side resulted in Martin Wilkins sweeping the ball in to the net from the near post. Ops failed to convert an even better passage of play when an outstretched Seb Constable’s deflection on a fierce cross just went wide. Old Wills only threat to the Folkestone goal came from short corners and they duly equalised from one late in he first half.
Folkestone came out fast at the start of the second half and scored shortly after the restart when Terry Couzens ran with the ball from wide on the right wing and calmly slotted it passed the on rushing keeper. The poise of midfielders Josh Bryen, Khai Smith and Sam Messenger ensured that Ops dominated the second half and Rolande Izzard was unlucky not to score as several chances were thwarted by the keeper. With constant support flowing from half backs, Paul Andrews, Simon Jones and Jacob Mackay the inevitable happened when a quality strike from Bryen from the very edge of the D found the back of the net. As Ops chased more goals, their opponents few excursions into the home side’s goal area were effectively dealt with by keeper Julian Salisbury and backs, Paul Major and Tom Leaver.
