Folkestone Ladies 1sts Vs BBHC

  • W 5-2
  • BBHC

On Saturday, the ladies 1st eleven, sponsored by Andreas Fancy Dress played BBHC, in a very early return fixture. The ladies felt fully prepared for the game after a good warm up and team talk from captain Vic Carney.

Liu Batchelor was welcomed into the side for her debut for the first eleven this season. At the beginning of the game, the Folkestone Ladies maintained possession of the ball well and looked the more organised of the two teams. Folkestone had some early chances created from excellent play by winger Lucy Anderson but couldn’t capitalise. BBHC had a few break away opportunities which were handled well by the solid defensive line up of Lin Cronin, Sharon Harding, Janet Fuller(man of the match), Kay Parsons, Lauren Geddes and Kate Rockall. Before long BBHC were awarded a short corner and after a clean strike, Folkestone were unlucky to find themselves 1-0 down. Folkestone Optimists didn’t allow their heads to go down and after some excellent team attacking play from Janet Fadagio and Vic Carney, a goal was denied by the feet of the opposition defence and Folkestone were awarded a penalty flick. Jo Bryen confidently stepped up to take the flick and put the ball into the net to level the scores. Folkestone maintained the majority of the possession throughout the rest of the first half and so were unlucky to go into half time 2-1 down after BBHC took advantage of their second short corner. A positive half time team talk from coach Dave Parsons gave the ladies the encouragement they needed and they passed the ball around well led by Ashley Mainwaring in the centre of the pitch. A BBHC mistake from their defensive hit allowed Kate Rockall to slot the ball through to a well positioned Anderson who made a neat pass to Vic Carney who made the scores level again. Folkestone dominated the majority of the rest of the game and some reckless tackling from the BBHC defence led to another penalty flick being awarded which Jo Bryen converted to take Folkestone into the lead for the first time in the game. Soon after, Folkestone gained a short corner from some nice attacking play from Ashley Hills and Liu Batchelor and Jo Bryen completed her hat-trick with a low flick from the top of the circle. BBHC struggled to take control of their game at 4-2 down and a lovely piece of individual play from Janet Fadagio saw Folkestone take the game finally out of their reach. This was an excellent team performance from the Folkestone ladies and they should take a lot of positives from this game
