Folkestone U16s vs Burnt Ash U16s
There is a fabulous spirit in this under 16 squad and coupled with the
enormous talent the future looks very bright. It was difficult to pick a player
of the match but Willem Bygrave was superb in midfield and at the centre
of much of Folkestone’s creativity. Burnt Ash had their own stars and this
was an extremely close game and it needed Josh Clifford and Ryan Fagg at
the back to be at their best to ward off the many attacks. Folkestone went
ahead through Ames Bell after a fantastic cross from Becca Shaw. Burnt Ash
equalised before half time after a great attack and it was level at half time.
Folkestone’s midfield of Ashley Mainwaring, Bygrave and Dan Marsh started
to assert themselves against their bigger opposition and during a sustained
period of attack for Folkestone the ball fell to Jacob Mackie who scored a fine
goal. The last 10 minutes belonged largely to Burnt Ash who were unlucky
not to equalise when they hit the post. A short corner from Ash right at the
end nearly produced a goal but the honour went to Folkestone. Coach Chris
Slade is getting the very best out of this talented side.
