Youth Hockey
Folkestone Optimist under 14 team sponsored by Remland carpets played
their first game of the new league and they got it off to a fantastic start. By
half time the side were 3-0 up due to two excellently worked goals by Ames
Bell and a good goal by Josh Clifford. After an inspiring team talk at half time
the team managed to score 5 more goals via top goal scorer for the season
Simon Imm, a fantastic shot into the top right corner from the captain Dan
marsh, a second for Clifford and two more goals from Cameron Ross and
Callum Rose. It was a good start to the new league for the team and they
hope to progress throughout the rest of the season. Man of the match was
shared between Marsh, Rory Fry and debutant Kelly Cochran.
Mini Hockey Sponsored by Spires St Saviours – Sunday 6th Feb
Under 10s Mixed – 1st & 2nd on the day!!
Folkestone fielded 2 teams in a Triangular tournament on Sunday against
Marden and hosts Canterbury. The young players had five games each
with Folkestone Town winning 4 and only losing 1 game, scoring 9 goals.
Top scorer was Finn with 3. Team: Jessica, Hannah, Emma 1, Finn 3, Sid
2, Cieron 1, Theo 2, Robert, Maxx. Folkestone Fliers with top scorer Harvey
with 6 attacked in numbers and had a strong defence with Joe and Andrew.
Team: Rosie, Daisy, Juliette, Zia, Olivia, Harvey, Joe, Kane, Andrew. Both
teams played extremely well, coming 1st and 2nd respectively. Well Done!
Under 12 Girls
The girls faced 2 Canterbury sides, 2 Marden sides and one from Gore court,
plenty of competitive hockey for these keen young ladies. Results varied
from a 4-0 defeat against one of the Marden sides to a 4-0 victory against a
Canterbury side and hat-trick for Fliss. What was important on the day was
the improvement in their hockey from start to finish, their enthusiasm and the
fun they appeared to have taking part. Particular thanks must go to Hannah
and Flora who volunteered to make up the numbers in the Gore Court side.
They both played exceptionally well, Flora their leading goal scorer! The side
welcomed new recruit Lily, a real asset.
Under 12 Boys
The first match produced a draw between Folkestone Fliers & Canterbury,
despite having all the pressure in the last 3 mins. The second saw the Fliers
go down 4 – 0 against a strong Marden side with a performance they were
themselves disappointed with, what a turnaround though in their last match
against Gore Court. There was good movement, accurate passing and strong
defending; the keeper didn’t even touch the ball! Rory Fry in his new role
bossed the game and was outstanding. The result 0-0 didn’t reflect the effort
and enthusiasm of the team.
Folkestone Town played really well. They drew their 2 matches against
Canterbury and won1-0 against Marden the first time and then 2-0 on the
replay. Everyone worked tirelessly but Jamie Whitham is deserved of a
special mention, defending extremely well.
A huge thank you to coaches Janet Fuller & Sue French (U10s), Lauren
Geddes & Craig Wait (U12 girls) and Phil Reid, & Mick & Jamie Miller-
Hastings (U12 boys). Thanks too to our excellent parents for your support.
