Ladies 1s – 3 Tunbridge Wells – 2
On Saturday, the Ladies 1st team christened their brand new pitches with their first league game at home against Tunbridge Wells. Sponsored by Andreas Fancy dress, the ladies felt fully prepared for the game after a good warm up and team talk from new captain Vic Carney. At the beginning of the game, Tunbridge Wells maintained possession of the ball well and looked the more organised of the two teams. After some confusion in defence Tunbridge Wells slotted the ball into the net to put them into the lead. After some extra support and advice on the side-line provided by coach Ally Hiscox, Folkestone looked to attack more successfully through Ashley Mainwaring, Janet Fadagio and Lauren Geddes. Folkestone were awarded a short corner which was well worked and the rebound was eventually slapped in by Lucy Anderson. At half time, Folkestone were relieved and lucky to be 1-1 and still in the game with some great saves from Lin Cronin. After some key tips from captain Carney at half time, Folkestone started the second half with a much more positive spirit. A great piece of defending led to Ops second goal. Sharon Harding made a forward pass out onto the left which was chased down by Jo Bryen who dropped it off for Ashley Mainwaring. The ball was switched onto the right for Janet Fuller who then supplied Fadagio with a great ball into the D to score. Ops looked in control for the first time in the match. Not long after, Tunbridge Wells were awarded a questionable short corner and despite efforts from the defence, the ball was hit into the goal. At 2-2 Folkestone were determined to get more out of the game and a great piece of individual play from Fadagio saw Folkestone bring the ball out of defence and score again with the support of Leah Smithard. Folkestone were delighted with the win and travel to Canterbury for their next league game.
