Folkestone 4th XI 2

Maidstone 4th XI 3

It’s difficult to understand how Folkestone lost this game but credit goes to a gutsy Maidstone side for a tremendous fightback in an exciting game where both goalkeepers had fabulous games.

Folkestone started the better with Chris New and Keith Tait up front causing the Maidstone defence all sorts of problems. The Folkestone midfield of Phil Gascoyne, Nathan Ingleston and Richard Davey were winning a lot of ball and 20 minutes in Folketone took the lead from Chris News powerful reverse stick strike.  Folkestone should have taken the lead when Steve Shaw ran half the length of the pitch and laid the ball on to Keith Tait whose shot was expertly saved by the keeper.  1-0 at Half Time and all was looking good.  Maidstone then equalised after good pressure but Folkestone regained the lead from te softest of short corner strikes from Phil Gascoyne. The last 10 minutes were all Maidstone and 2 well taken goals gave them the spoils despite an excellent game from Adam Luckham at Right Back and Man of the Match Matt Whitehead in goal.
