Mens 4ths vs UKC

Folkestone Men’s 4th XI 2
University of Kent 1
This was a gritty performance from Folkestone who can count themselves lucky
to come away with all 3 points. However they say you make your own luck and it
was Folkestone’s defence of the ageless Dave Brazier and Man of the Match Adam
Luckham ahead of the impressive Kent Under 15s keeper Matt Whitehead that can
take the plaudiits for this win. The first half belonged to the students and deservedly
went into the break 1-0 up. Folkestone had their chances with Steve Shaw and
Deryl Gilham Jones going close. A stern team talk at half time from the Older guard
saw Folkestone step up the pace and the young midfield of Ben Shaw, Eliot Gilham
Jones, Nathan Ingleston and Rich Davie started winning more and more of the ball
and the flowing passing moves that Folkestone have adopted in recent weeks started
to pay off. Chances came to Shaw, Andy Mainwaring and Gilham Jones senior and
finaly a fine strike from Rich Davie levelled the game with 15 minutes to go. Sensing
a victory Folkestone pushed on and with 2 minutes to go a great move involving
both Shaw’s, and Andy Mainwaring presented the chance to Gilham Jones senior
who won the game. The students were gracious in defeat and a credit to hockey
and as is tradition several beers made the victory sweeter
