Chairman’s Blog – August 2019
Greetings Optimists. Another season is upon us – our 94th!!
Quite soon, you should all see the start of construction of a filming tower for pitch 1. This will be of great use to coaches and captains to film games and training and be able to review team and player performance in more detail. We also hope that we will be able to live stream games.
Provision of a spectator area is ongoing. We have identified a company that can provide seating in the form of bleachers for about 100 people and we are almost ready to instruct a company to carry out the ground works and move fencing. The ambition is to have cover too, but this will be subject to having enough funds.
The Junior Section is thriving, and Erin Fuller has more people who have offered help which means there are more coaches, leaders and organisers for our youngsters. We provide coaching for almost every junior school in the area led and organised by Dave Parsons and this will lead to more youngsters playing hockey and identifying with FOHC as their local club as they progress.
Chris Pearce will continue to coach the Men’s 1st/2nd XI squads and manage the 1st XI on Saturdays. The Ladies have secured Phil Ithurs to coach the 1st XI this season. We also welcome Phil and Clare Readman back to the Club after their adventures abroad and in Darlington.
Can you all please be proactive in getting your subscriptions paid which are due from 1st September. This is the Club’s income and we need the funds to pay for everything so you can all play hockey.
Finally. Show your pride in playing for the Optimists. Be welcoming and courteous to the opposition and umpires and most of all – Enjoy your hockey!!
