Ladies 1st XI v Basildon

March 11, 2019

Following an emphatic victory last week, Ops looked to bring the game to top of the table Basildon. Despite early attacking opportunities by Ops, it was unfortunately Basildon who drew first blood through a quick counter. Undeterred by this, Ops upped the temp and began to string together lovely passing moves throughout the midfield and in behind the defence. Following a positive passage of play involving Jo, Ash, Becky and Claire, Ops equalised with Em managing to get on the end of a perfectly timed cross. Soon afterward, Ops took the lead through another decisive attack down the right wing with Claire getting herself on the scoresheet. Just before half time, Ops scores yet another through a well executed short corner routine with Hannah bagging herself a first time finish.

Ops wanted more of the same into the second half and continued to attack well. Basildon however also upped their game and piled on some pressure. Hannah, Helen, Pacey, Erin and Jo however remained resilient and Ash dominated the midfield, neutralising any threats. The score remained 3-1 until about 2/3 through the half, when Basildon were awarded a penalty flick, which they converted. With about 10 mins to go, Ops were under considerable pressure as they looked to hold on to the lead against top of the table. Within the final 2 minutes however, Basildon earned a short corner which they battled across the line, leaving a final score of 3-3. While disappointed to have not come away with 3 points, Ops were over the moon with their performance and attitude against a strong opposition and proved they they certainly can tussle with the top of the table!!
