Ops travelled away to Havering looking to earn some points after the half term break. The game started well with Ops creating some early attacking plays. They were looking calm on the ball. Following a period of high pressure, Ops capitalised as Holly latched onto a loose ball in the D and hit low into the bottom corner. Shortly afterwards, a great bit of attacking play down the right from Becky and Claire resulted in their 2nd of the match as perfectly positioned Charley slotted the ball home past the keeper. Towards the end of the half, Havering had an extended spell of possession which rewarded them with a goal with the last hit of the half.
Into the 2nd half, Ops looked to pick up the intensity and make the most of their chances. Straight from the off, their plan worked, as they pinned Havering back into their defensive 25. They were rewarded with a short corner, slipping the ball to Hannah whose rebounded shot was tapped in by Holly. Their confidence grew and grew as they launched attacks on the Havering defence. Through sheer determination and tenacity, Ash was next on the scoresheet after her mazey run rewarded her with a quality goal, firing up under a diving keeper. Straight from push back, the forward line pressed high and hard on the Havering defence, earning them another short corner. This one was slipped left to Ash who fired across goal for a deflection from Holly. Captain Becky was next on the scoresheet as she did was she had done all game: terrorise the right side of the pitch with her explosive speed and skill, beating a few players before firing a rocket 🚀 into the back of the net! Ops earned themselves another short corner which was converted this time by Claire, who had until this point been unselfish and who decided it was time to get on the scoresheet herself. Through a slick slipped move with Becky, she fired the ball against the backboard to add her name to the tally. As the game drew to a close, Havering earned themselves 2 goals from quick breakaway moves. Ops continued to dominate and yet another of Becky’s relentless runs was rewarded as Holly finished off from close range. Claire once again decided it was time to make her mark and get a hatrick in the dying 5 mins as she bagged another 2 goals. The first was a rebounded shot which she took past a defender and fired on her reverse into the roof of the net. The second involved a nice bit of skill past a defender onto her strong side which she fired like a bullet into the net from a wide position. The score finished 10-3 as Ops were more than pleased with their attitude and execution of the match. All that’s left to ask is, what the hell was in the Carter-Cobb breakfast yesterday morning and can we have some more of that next week please ?!
