Ladies 1st XI v Redbridge and Ilford – Saturday 16th March

March 18, 2019

Ops travelled away to Redbridge and Ilford this week, looking to continue their good form from the past few weeks. The game started well with Ops creating a number of clear cut chances, but were not able to get out in front. The game soon opened up and Ops dominated possession, continuing to launch attacking waves. They, however, could not get the ball across the line and went in at half time 0-0.

Ops aimed to up their intensity in the second half and needed the score to reflect their dominance. Captain Becky Wyatt led by example, taking the bull by the horns. She single handedly dribbled from midfield, past a series of Redbridge defenders and ran the ball directly into the goal. Spurring the team on, she continued the momentum by bursting twice more through the Redbridge defence and burying the ball into the back of the net, thoroughly deserving her hatrick. Ops continued to pepper the defence with attacks and it was team junior Georgia who joined Becky on the scoresheet. She was perfectly positioned on the back post for a calm and collected finish following a well timed cross. The game finished 4-0 to Ops, who are at home next week looking to continue their strong run.
