Ladies 4th XI v Gravesend

February 10, 2019

Goal scorers yesterday were Janet Fuller and Ellen Comber.

The ladies 4s knew they had a tough game against Gravesend which was not helped by the very strong winds. Gravesend went 1 – 0 up very quickly following a penalty corner which they managed to get past Lauren Steer who had volunteered to go in goal, having only put the goalie kit on twice before!  There was some lovely play through the midfield involving joint players of the match Laurel Fry and Chantelle Duncan but we were unable to find the net. We had the wind behind us in the second half and we put Gravesend under constant pressure. We were eventually rewarded with a penalty flick when a shot was stopped on the line by a foot, this was scored by Janet Fuller when the goalie dived the wrong way. We continued to press with the opposition only going into our half a few times which the defence and Lauren in goal quickly dealt with. Out persistence eventually paid off and a shot by Laurel Fry was helped into the goal by Ellen Comber in her first senior game.  A hard but well earned 2 – 1 win!
