Mens 7th XI v Ashford – Friendly

September 24, 2017

Team: Optimist Men’s 7th XI

Competition: Friendly

Date: 23.09.17

Venue: Home

Result: Optimist 7ths 3 Ashford 6ths 2

Goal Scorers: Chris Jeffery, Dominic van der WAL, Matt Bates

The 7ths ended up with a 3-2 win in their friendly game against Ashford 6ths. With a full squad of sixteen players there were frequent substitutions but this gave the newer players, Adam Copping, Matt Bates, Louis Gray, Stuart Peall and Tom Langlands some useful competitive on-pitch experience before the league programme starts in two weeks time. Chris Jeffery opened the scoring for the 7ths early in the first half but by half time Ashford had scored twice to take the lead. The second half was evenly contested until the 7ths started to edge ahead with some solid play in midfield, some good passes across the D from Jeffery and sound defending by full backs Charlie Rouse and Copping and by Aaron Main in goal. Things definitely turned the 7ths way when Dominic van der WAL rounded off one of several individual runs through by scoring an impressive solo goal. This was followed late on by a goal from Bates which secured the 3 – 2 win.

Team list:- Aaron Main (goal), Charlie Rouse, Adam Copping, Brian Murrill, Simon Hunnibal, Stuart Ingleston, Tom Langlands, Philip Gascoyne, Glen Philip, Matt Bates, Louis Gray, Clive Stiles, Stuart Peall, Dominic van der WAL, Chris Jeffery, Chris Darrell.
