Men’s 7th XI v Canterbury Saturday 16th September – Friendly

September 18, 2017

Team: Optimist Men’s 7th XI

Competition: Friendly

Date: 16.09.17

Venue: Home

Result: Optimist 7ths 2     Canterbury Friars 3

Goal Scorers: Rolande Izzard, Chris Jeffery

Losing 2-3 against Canterbury Friars was a disappointing result for the 7ths who had started the game playing good passing hockey and they were leading 2-0 after the first twenty minutes. These early goals came from Rolande Izzard and Chris Jeffery who benefitted from some dominant play in midfield from Simon Hunnibal, Tom Shearman, Stuart Ingleston and debutant Stuart Peall. Canterbury scored soon after the 7th’s second goal to make it 2-1 at half time. At the start of the second half the balance of play swung Canterbury’s way with two of their younger players combining very well and Canterbury scored 2 early goals to go ahead 2-3. The 7ths then settled down and the defensive trio of Charlie Rouse, debutant Adam Copping and Harry Roche in goal secured things at the back. The 7ths continued to create some good attacking moves right to the end of the game, with several pacy runs through from Dominic van der WAL, but they could not find the net and so had to accept defeat.

Team list:- Harry Roche (goal), Charlie Rouse, Adam Copping, Simon Hunnibal, Stuart Ingleston (Capt), Tom Shearman, Glen Philip, Stuart Peall, Dominic van der WAL, Rolande Izzard, Chris Jeffery, Chris Darrell. (Brian Murrill and Owen Gosford were also due to play but umpired the game instead)
